We are delighted to announce that Efeca is one of the first organisations to be certified as having an eco-friendly website.  After a little bit of work on our website, we have just been accredited by the Eco-Friendly Website Accreditation which recognises our digital sustainability leadership and the importance of sustainability and our social impact at Efeca.

The accreditation ensures we are taking responsibility to reduce the carbon footprint of our website and maintain a low carbon threshold while we work towards our Race to Zero commitment.

Everyone at Efeca is thrilled to receive the EFWA Eco-Friendly Website Accreditation and we’re proud to be one of the first organisations in the world to have a low carbon, eco-friendly website in light of high carbon emissions of the internet and websites being a key contributor to these emissions.

About Eco-Friendly Web Alliance (EFWA) and why it is important to have a low carbon website

The coming years will be a critical time for the state of the planet and human wellbeing, and every action matters in our journey towards ‘net zero’ by 2050. While the focus has been on transportation, roads and buildings, the internet emissions are flying under the radar responsible for nearly 4% of global carbon emissions, more than the aviation industry, and uses 10% world’s electricity (only behind USA and China), majority of this coming from fossil fuels. Websites are a key contributor to this consumption. More worryingly, internet’s carbon emissions are set to double by 2025.

Eco-Friendly Web Alliance (EFWA), a multi-organisational international alliance, has developed the world’s first eco standard for websites and digital infrastructure. EFWA’s mission is to accelerate the delivery of a sustainable digital economy by helping businesses reduce their carbon emissions of their websites, digital platforms and infrastructure, creating a pathway towards climate positivity and the use of clean green energy to help them be part of the solution.

Undertaking the accreditation process is part of our commitment to sustainability and the environment. EFWA standards are developed collaboratively with industry experts, advocacy groups and academia and are reviewed by a reputed scientific advisory board.
