As part of a 4-year collaborative land use planning project commissioned by CIFOR and funded by the European Commission, Efeca played a crucial role in developing tools to pilot payment for ecosystem services (PES) options within two designated districts. This initiative aimed to integrate socio-economic survey findings and conduct economic valuations of various land use options and trade-offs. Efeca’s involvement focused on providing practical tools tailored for use by local NGOs, governmental bodies, and communities involved in the project areas. These tools were designed to facilitate informed decision-making and sustainable land management practices. Key outputs included technical reports on economic valuation methodologies, PES mechanisms, and socio-economic survey analyses. These reports were instrumental in shaping the development of effective land use planning strategies and policies.

Efeca’s collaboration with CIFOR and other project partners underscored a commitment to enhancing environmental stewardship and community resilience through evidence-based approaches. By piloting PES options, the project aimed to incentivise conservation efforts and promote ecosystem services that benefit local livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.

Moving forward, Efeca continues to support initiatives that promote sustainable land use planning and ecosystem conservation. The tools developed through this project serve as practical resources for ongoing efforts to balance economic development with environmental protection in diverse landscapes.
